The Rare Book & Manuscript Library prides itself on its lively and engaging public events and programs. Our programs go beyond the purely academic to embrace our role as a cultural center in a way more akin to a museum than a traditional library.  We celebrate the collections through engaging exhibitions, lectures, and conferences, of course, but also in innovative ways such as the annual Shakespeare’s Birthday Party, the Soybean Press, which teaches the art of letterpress, concerts based on a new acquisitions, plays in the library, Bloomsday activities, hands-on workshops in the book arts, reading circles, and even children’s events. More than public events, these are successful efforts to bring the collections to life and make them relevant in today’s world.
